Volunteering at Duke

It takes a village to raise a child... and also to keep all those programs they love going!

If you can find some time to help out, please get in touch with us, and let us know if there are particular projects you'd like to assist with, or if you'd just like to generally help anywhere you're needed.

Ongoing Volunteer Positions

Family Movie Nights
We always need a few extra hands to setup, cleanup, hand out popcorn, etc.

French Read Up
French Read Up takes place every Tuesday in the Danny Kitchen (3rd floor Woodfield building) from 3:15 to 4:15.  A volunteer is urgently needed to help check-in readers.  French is not required, however, some experience using a computer/Excel is appreciated.

Read Up
This program is looking for people who can help kids with reading during the hour on Thursdays after school.

Hot Lunch Program
We are always in need of volunteers to help prepare, serve and clean up in the kitchen. If you can help any day please let us know!

Volunteers need to have a recent police background check

The Principal would like to ensure that everyone who volunteers at the school has a valid Police background check on record at Duke.

The easiest procedure for new volunteers is as follows:
  1. Go to the bank and get a money order (usually the least expensive option but check your bank's fees), bank draft  or certified cheque for $20 made out to "Toronto Police Services."
  2. Go to Duke of Connaught's main office and ask for a Volunteer Background Check form.
  3. Spend all of 3 minutes filling out the form and hand it back with the payment from Step 1.

ONLINE BACKGROUND CHECKS: If you've discovered the TPS's online background check system, please don't use it. The check needs to be initiated with the school through the procedure above so that the report comes back to them. Thanks.

Please note that the background check process takes a while, so please plan ahead by getting your forms in early. When your background check arrives in the mail, make a copy if you would like one for your records, and deliver the original to the main office.

If you have volunteered before and have already had a background check, you only need to complete the Annual Declaration.
Go to the main office, and let them know you need to complete an Volunteer Annual Declaration. They will either hand you a form to complete and return or (if someone has time) they can call up your declaration on a computer for you to complete. Either way it should only take a couple of minutes.

If you have an event where you have volunteered but do not have your police check done, please contact the SAC to let them know.  We still need your help and we will do our best to help you help us.
